On
July 8 2006, Cpl. Joseph P. Micks,
son of Ken and Amy Micks of Rapid
River, was killed while serving our country in Iraq. Joseph is the only
Delta County resident to have lost his life in Iraq. The
Mick’s family said, “Joseph was our hero, he stood
up for our country and gave it everything he had.”
Now we would like to honor our fallen hero by raising money for the “Lest
They Be Forgotten” Memorial in honor of those
who have served and sacrificed. We hope to dedicate it on Memorial Day
in May 2009.
In
Michigan, the Fallen Heroes Memorial mission was established to
create, and help maintain, hometown Lest
They Be Forgotten Memorials.
These memorials are being placed in honor of the brave men and women
who have lost their lives defending the United States of America.
Michigan has dedicated 13 memorials. The first LTBF Memorial in the
Upper Peninsula, honoring Sgt. James D. Priestap of Foster City, was
dedicated in October 2007.
